The Mine Guardian, Yang Shiguo
What’s the story behind this?

In Danzhai County, Guizhou Province, there is a mercury mine that was established in the 1940s. At one point, it was the largest mercury mine in China and even in Asia. During its peak, up to 20,000 workers toiled day and night, living in this remote and desolate mining area. However, as resources were depleted, the once bustling mine ceased production in the early 1990s, becoming a lonely industrial relic. Today, 54-year-old Uncle Yang has been guarding this place for nearly five years, earning only 1,500 RMB a month, wandering alone through the empty mine. He has never left this place—this land has become his only home.

What We Did

Reaching Out to Uncle Yang: We contacted Uncle Yang through local government channels and had several conversations to understand his living conditions and the specifics of his room. After learning about his situation, we decided to donate lights to improve his living space.

Choosing the Right Lighting: Uncle Yang’s room was once part of an office building, so it’s a large space that needed bright lighting. After evaluating the options, we chose a ceiling light and energy-efficient LED lights to ensure proper illumination throughout the area.

On-Site Installation: Given the challenges of installation and the distance, we hired a certified local electrician to help with the setup. We also arranged for a photographer to capture this heartwarming moment. On June 29th, the lights arrived, and the electrician began installing the ceiling light while also inspecting the room’s wiring for safety. They reinforced the wiring to ensure that Uncle Yang could use his appliances safely.

The Result: As a result of the donation and installation, Uncle Yang’s living space was significantly improved, with brighter and safer lighting.

The Mercury Mine Needs A Guardian:

Life at the abandoned mine site is solitary and monotonous, so Uncle Yang bought a small dog and a couple of ducks for companionship. The mine’s owner, who is working on restoring the site, has plans to turn it into a tourist attraction. We hope Uncle Yang’s life continues to improve, and that our small gesture can bring some warmth and comfort to his home.

Mountain Boy With Big Dreams
What’s the story behind this?

A year ago, we met a cheerful boy in the mountains. This time, when we visited him again, he seemed weighed down with worries. It didn’t take long to understand why—his mother had fallen ill. To save money for his education, she refused to take her medication. At just 12 years old, he had already taken on the responsibility of caring for his family. Under the scorching sun, he worked tirelessly, more mature than most kids his age. By day, he labors; by night, he continues his studies. But without proper lighting in their home in the mountains, he has to rely on a flashlight to do his homework.

What We Did

We gave him a lamp, hoping to light up the darkness in his life, illuminate the path ahead, and protect his fragile eyes. But more than that, we wanted to safeguard his dream—a 12-year-old boy with a heart full of aspirations to grow strong and protect his family. With this lamp, we hope he can focus more on his studies and, just as importantly, feel the warmth and care from strangers who believe in him. Through this small gift, we want him to hold on to his dreams, keep pushing forward through the struggles, and one day step into a brighter future.

The Power Of Light

As we were leaving, he walked me across the iron bridge once more. In that moment, his cheerful smile returned, reminding me of the bright, hopeful boy we first met.

Light of Hope — Warming the Heart of the “Meat Bun Grandpa”
The Story

We met an inspiring grandpa who, despite having a disability, makes a living selling meat buns. His optimistic attitude, despite the challenges he faces, truly touched us. During a visit to his home, we noticed the dim lighting and grew concerned about his safety—poor visibility at night could easily lead to a fall. That’s when we decided to step in and bring some light into his life.

What We Did

We reached out to the grandpa and sent him a new light fixture tailored to his needs. To ensure proper installation, we arranged for a local technician to set up the ceiling light. The technician also took the extra step of checking and reinforcing the electrical wiring in his home, making it safer and more convenient for him to use appliances in the future.

A Warm Light, Just Like Grandpa’s Spirit

Good lighting has the power to brighten more than a room—it warms the heart. Grandpa, always smiling despite his inability to read or speak, radiates optimism. His cheerful demeanor stands in stark contrast to the fast-paced, often indifferent world around us. Through this small gesture, we hope to illuminate not just his home but also his unyielding spirit.

Lighting the Way for Two Sisters
The Story

A little girl with hearing impairment and striking blue eyes captured our attention. When we learned that the dim lighting in her home made it difficult for her to study, we decided to take action. We wanted to brighten her room, protect her beautiful eyes, and create a better learning environment.

What We Did

Reaching Out: Through local influencers and government contacts, we got in touch with the girl’s family. After learning more about their situation, we shared our goal of donating suitable lights to improve her living and learning conditions.

Choosing the Right Lights: Knowing the room was spacious, we selected large, bright ceiling lights and eye-protecting desk lamps. These lights were specifically chosen to provide the sisters with a comfortable and well-lit space for studying.

A Brighter Future: With the new lights installed, the older sister cheerfully shared, “Now, no matter how late I get home from school, I can do my homework properly.” Under the warm and steady glow of the lights, the sisters can now focus on their studies without straining their eyes.

Summary

A well-lit room is more than just a brighter space—it’s a place where dreams take root and grow. For these two little girls, the light not only illuminates their books but also paves the way for a healthier, happier childhood, filled with learning and hope for the future.

Love and responsibility, driven by a heart for charity, take us further. We have been walking this path, and we call on more kind-hearted people to join us in spreading warmth and care. Every act of kindness is a spark of hope; every small action is the power to change the world.
